Insya Allah, tonight we will be entering the last ten nights of Ramadan in 2022. For many of us, this is the time we have been waiting for as we seek to be given the opportunity to meet the Night of Decree or Lailatul Qadr. The Night of Decree is considered as the most significantly sacred nights in Islam as it was the night in which the Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
Allah SWT says in Surah Al-Qadr:
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.
Inna Anzalnahu fii Lailatil Qadr Wama Adraka Ma Lailatul Qadr
Lailatul Qadri khairum min alfi shahr
Tanazayalul malaikatu waalrroohu, Fiha biyzni Rabbihim min qulli amr
Salamun hiya hatta matlaail fajr
(97:1) Behold, We revealed this (Qur'an) on the Night of Power. (97:2) And what do you know what the Night of Power is? (97:3) The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. (97:4) The angels along with the Spirit descend in it by the permission of their Lord with all kinds of decrees. (97:5) All peace is that night until the rise of dawn.
There are also other key beautiful significance of this night and they include : 1. The date of the Night of Decree is Not Known
We do not know when Allah SWT decides to provide the night of power but it is believed to be on the odd nights in the last ten days of Ramadan (e.g. the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27 or 29th night). The Prophet Muhammad SAW said, “Seek it in the last ten days, on the odd nights,” (Hadith, Bukhari and Muslim).
It is also said that one of the signs of Lailatul Qadr is that the night is said to be calm, and the weather is neither hot or cold. In the morning after,, the sun is said to be bright and clear with soft sunrays believed to be covered by the wings of the Angels.
2. Abundance Rewards of the Night
It is believed that night is better than a thousand months such every act of deeds and worship on this chosen night will be rewarded abundantly. On these night, pray for forgiveness, recite the Quran more often, and offer sadaqah to increase your rewards on these nights.
3. Supplications Are Accepted and Sins Forgiven
As humans, we are far from making mistakes. Take this time to reflect and increase your supplications and it is the night where supplications are accepted and sins are forgiven. It was narrated that Saidatina Aishah RA asked Prophet SAW “O Messenger of Allah! If I know which night Laylatul Qadr is, what should I say in it?” And he replied:
Allāhumma Innaka 'Afuwwun Karīmun Tuhibbu-l 'Afwa Fa'fu 'Annī "Oh Allah, You are indeed Forgiving, Generous and love to forgive, so forgive me."
In addition, Abu Hurairah r.a. narrates that the Prophet SAW said: “Whoever stands (in the voluntary night of prayer in Ramadan) out of faith and in hopes of attaining reward, will have his previous sins forgiven. And whoever spends the night of Lailatul Qadr in prayer out of faith and in hopes of attaining reward, will have his previous sins forgiven.” [Sunan an-Nasa’i]
As we draw closer to the closure of the blessed month of Ramadan, let’s pray that Allah SWT will accept all our deeds and allow us to meet the special night of Lailatul Qadr. Make dua for us to be among those that Allah hear our pleas, accept our supplications and forgive our sins and may we be among Allah SWT chose to receive the blessings of Lailatul Qadar. Aamin.
